Anyone living in the UK might like to get a copy of this month's Personal Computer World mag Jan 2009 vol.32 no.1.

The included dvd has a freebie of the Easeus Partition Manager Pro 2.1 which works on x64. Not as full featured as the Paragon, but it's pretty good for a freebie.

Review here ( note the Home version is available free in many places - but you need the Pro for 64bit)

Hi SIW2,

Sorry to be so slow answering, had to pop out,

I'm still using Paragon DM 8.5SE in 32 bit Vista but will have a look at the mag as I intend to go 64 bit eventually - thanks for the tip

OK, I have 7 up & running with all my software installed, I used the easy transfer tool in my old installation of 7 & restored it on the new build. It does not let you get your installed programs but when you restore it gives you a list of programs you had installed so you can reload them. You can save all of your mail settings, files, & system settings. You can also customize what you want to be backed up. I think this feature works great. I have had no issues yet, smooth sailing you might say.

I also got a much lower experience rating in this build than in this build than in the earlier ones (and Vista) I don't worry too much at this stage. You can "cheat" the system a little.
Open the Device manager. Right click each of your Disk drives, and then Properties.
Under the "Policies" tab, by default, Windows 7 has selected, probably correctly, "Optimize for Performance".
If you untick this, and rerun the assessment, you will find your score will improve dramatically.

Hi SIW,

Yes, sorry, I worked this one out later. With The Lappy install I just emptied a working partition with drive letter.

Desktop was a new install with format and then install with just a wipe, so no drive letter and then I used the existing drive C:\ from the previous install.

I hope this makes sense.
