    Touchpad scrolling does not work

I have a DELL XPS M1530 laptop that I just installed a full version of Windows 7. It had Windows Vista on it before. It is a replacement computer for my old DELL (same model) that was having issues.

I usually hook up a bluetooth mouse when I use my computer, but I just noticed last night when I was using the touchpad instead, is that it does not scroll up and down, or left to right. The mouse part of the touchpad works fine, as does the left and right buttons.

I am assuming the scrolling is just turned off on this computer (thinking simply first ... hoping it is not a serious issue). But I cannot find where to check to see if it needs to be turned back on.

    Any suggestions?

There are only drivers for Vista and not Win 7. This may be an issue.
You could try the Vista driver under input devices.

pebbly, thank you for the link, but those links are for a Toshiba. Any links for a Dell XPS M1530?

So since Windows 7 doesnt have drivers yet, is it okay that I download one that is meant for Vista 32-bit? I have had such computer problems that I would hate to cause another one.

Try going into control panel > mouse. You should see a Dell dialog box with several tabs including Dell Touchpad. From there you should be able to turn scrolling on/off as well as other touchpad functions. You might also check the Dell support site for the latest drivers and other apps for your machine. Go into the section appropriate for you (home, business, etc.) and use your service tag # for apps/drivers specific to your machine.

See that's the thing. I have been in that area of the control panal before (not on this computer) and I have adjusted those setting before. But they are not here on this computer.

When I go into control panal, I can click on Hardware and Sound. Then I can click on Mouse. But when I do that, it just takes me to the options to adjust my bluetooth mouse. I can't find the "touchpad" anywhere, and I have seen it before on other computers, so I know it should be there.

So this sounds like I am indeed missing a driver, although it seems odd to me that I can move the mouse around with the touchpad and click on things???

I went to the DELL website and found a driver for my DELL XPS M1530 with Vista 32-bit for the following:
    Dell Touchpad / Pointing Stick

    Release Date:12/12/2007Version:7.1.102.7 , A00Download Type:DriverFile Format:Hard DriveFile Size:3 MB

    Does that sound right?
