Is it normal?

Hello to all,
I have noticed on my current install of W7 Ultimate 64 bit, that if I install a program, it appears in the recently started menu box as it normally should. But I can not remove it manually or with CCleaner until after a reboot, when it then easily is removed. Thanks for your expert opinions and knowledgeable info.

Often when programs are installed they can't be completely installed because files that are currently in use need to be replaced/modifed/deleted so a reboot is necessary to complete the install. If the install isn't complete yet (because you haven't rebooted) then you may not be able to run the uninstaller.

You cannot remove any program, new or old if still in use. Many times it is necessary to remove in safe mode or to remove it from startup through msconfig.

Do you mean you want to delete just the progam name from the list or comletely uninstall the program?

I've found that recently installed programs can't be removed from the recently used list. After a restart they usually can be. But some, like 7 zip continue to show up for several days even if never used after install. Just a quirk I believe. A Guy

Hello Gentlemen,
I did not make myself clear. I just wanted to remove the program from the start menu, not uninstall it. It refuses to budge until a reboot, then I can remove from list.
Sorry and thanks, hope that helps.

it must be a specific application issue because when i install software, and it shows up in the start menu glowing orange (the new program installed highlight colour i mean), i simply right click and select remove from this list. I have never had to reboot to allow this to happen.

This is a screenshot of my Start Menu right now. Installed latest beta of 7Zip yesterday. Was able to remove it from list this moring. But when restarted there it is again, and as of now, won't let me remove from list. Has happened with many apps. Not a big deal, just it does happen.

One thing not mentioned. You don't have to see them at all.
Right click the start globe and select properties. - Start menu tab.
Untick the two item s there.
Open the "Customise" option and scroll down, and untick, "Highlite newly installed program"; and "Recent items" - it should then be rid of most of the extra stuff.
