Please Help me. I'm so frustrated.

So it's almost 6:00 am and I have my face sinking in my palms.

I have a Gateway FX 7024. Specs are here:

I bought 8 gigs of ram today DDR2 but 800 speed and installed them. I also got a 16 gig flash drive with Windows 7 Ultimate 64/32 on it.

Old system was Vista 32 bit, which requires me to do a clean install with Windows 7. I think my rig can handle 64 bit. Also, I believe it's worth mentioning that my vista installation had two partitions on my hard drive. One was a recovery of 10 gigs and the other was the actual installation.

I installed Windows 7 over the actual installation partition (thus leaving the recovery unnafected) and it all went well until it finished installing and rebooted. Then a GATEWAY background came and suddenly there is this system recovery options menu...... it wont let me do squat. I cant restore, fix, repair, nothing!!!

I'm thinking this might be because the other partition (which still has windows vista 32 bit on it) is trying to boot up as well an causing an issue.

Guys, I really need help with this, I'm desperate and have spent the last 8 hours on this.... Anyone? Please?

I am a bit confused as to where you are and what you want to do.
First if you are trying to install an OS remove all the ram but 2 gigs

Second where did you get your win 7? since it does not come n flash drive it might not be a working copy

Third--did you format the partition that you want to install on?

I got it from my friend. I did not format them nor delete them. I was wondering if this is what I should do. Thanks for the ram advice.

No problem on the ram, you must format when going from 32 to 64bit, and it is always a good idea.

So I assume you are trying to install win 7 (your friends win 7 may or may not work and is obviously not legal) so I cant help you there

Boot from the dvd click install and hope for the best

What if I delete the partitions? is that just as good?

Just do a clean install from the friend's dvd, dont enter any key and leave "Activate when online" box unchecked. You can use this setup for upto 120 days while you make up your mind.

Well given I get it to work properly and like it, I'll surely get the key when the time comes. I finally got it working and it rocks. Until an update that pretty much made my keyboard and mouse useless. A logitech update that messed with their drivers. That was a story in itself......

Are there any controversial updates that I should watch for? One last thing. I'm having a bit of a weird issue...

I bought 8 gigs (4 sticks of 2) of ram DDR2 800. Notice that Original is Samsung 667.

I updated mi BIOS to the latest: DPP3510J.15A.0316.2008.0522.1909.

Here is the strange part. When I go to mi BIOS (before and after I updated it) it showed that I have 2, 2 gig corsair sticks 800 mhz and 2 SAMSUNG 512 667?! what? I can see that its four 2 gig corsair stick in there! so what gives? I thought that would go away after the bios update but it has not.

I have read about unchecking the memory box in msconfig (been there, done that) also about memory remapping (i cant do it on my bios.... i cant find it) and a myriad of other things. So, can anyone help me? I'm really worried about this. I'm going to return my memory if I cant get it to go.

Quick Update:

I bought the modules from Tiger Direct, tomorrow I'll pass by and have them verify that they all are 2 gigs

The order before was 2 gigs, 512, 2 gigs, 512.

I turned off the comp and switched them around and it's now

The BIOS might be fixed configured... IE: when Gateway built the computer, they set the BIOS to identify the chips they put it. Generally, whenever you do a serious hardware change of this nature, you want to go into BIOS first and see if it detects things properly.

In your case, I think the bios still thinks you have something else. First thing you might want to try is see if you can re-seat the memory, blow out any possible dust as well.

Reboot the system, go into the bios and check to see that it SEES 8 gigs of ram. If it does, then check Windows when you get in there and see if it sees the same.

What do you mean "re-seat"? like take it out and put it back in? I dont know why would the manufacturer advertise that it is expandable up to 8 gigs and then they put a bios that wouldnt recognize it, that would be the pinnacle for gateway!
