Windows 7 Ultimate(32) wont boot because it thinks its Vista

I have Windows 7 Ultimate(32bit) running on a laptop and about a month ago the boot time went from 1:30 to like 5 minutes, which I found unacceptable.

I foolishly tried playing with msconfig and changed from selective startup to normal startup. It now tries to boot the old Vista 32 that Windows 7 was upgraded from.

I can not access startup repair options as every time I select them it just flashes and goes right back to the screen. I cant boot into Vista as it is no longer there and just goes to a black screen.

It only sees the Vista install and none of the system restore points even when I boot from the Windows 7 disc? Im out of ideas on how to fix the boot, please help!?!?

P.S. I believe it may have had something to do with the "use original boot configuration" option in msconfig?

    Welcome
This is just the start of your problems. To resolve, you cannot upgrade, you must do a clean install. Bite the bullet and do it over. I will get you the instructions.
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version[2]=General Tips

I know this is not what you want to hear, but it is the solution to the problem and all that are soon to be.

Do you want an old car that has been waxed, and tuned up, and detailed or a new car? Its the same thing with Windows. With an upgrade all the old problems are just whitewashed with a new name and features.
