My familys PC has become bloated and i'm going to install win 7 on it,
but after reading this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/news/11078-beta-expiration-letter.html , i am unsure whether to install the RC or 7127, does anyone know if 7127 will be shut off in august like 7000?
Because i'm going to keep whatever build i choose on the PC until the official version.

I'm currently using the RC and I've had no problems at all, but i probably will install 7127 or whatever build comes out soon onto it when i get the time to reinstall everything.

The expiration date of build 7127 is 3-1-2010 just like 7100. I would go with the RC 7100. I just did the same thing last night to my mom's computer. It seems to run better. (although I have 7127 installed on a lesser machine) You can't go wrong with the official RC until the RTM comes out. Good luck.

Agreed, 7100 is very VERY stable and is an official release ;)

always install latest version! this is a rule :) but thing is if you dont intend to reinstall that computer you are better of with 7100 (you are at least geting critical updates), however if you install all new builds (but i doubt you do, since you are asking this 2 weeks after 7127 was released :P), this patches doesnt matter, since they get included in later builds anyway.

7127 is way better than 7100, I had drivers not working in 7100 but it works in 7127

I clean installed every second build or so since 7000, but haven't installed 7127 on my laptop because i've been in the middle of exams (need autocad, word, matlab etc working) i will get around to installing it (or a new one when/if it comes out) on my laptop,
i was just wondering what build to install on my familys PC until the final version is released.

I used have 7100 less than one week usage then upgrade to 7127.

7127 Partial Changelog;

  • new memtest for x86 and x64
  • changes to migration tools/functions
  • changes to hardware compatibility functions
  • install.wim changed from 2.115GB to 2.229GB (x86) / 2.772GB to 2.969GB (x64) [most likely drivers added along with changes to system ident/test tools]
  • changes to restore functions (rollback.exe and others)
  • a few .dll's are now gone
  • testplugin.dll added
  • changes to system rating score
  • lots of little changes but nothing groundbreaking. Most of the changes look to be all about compatibility and adding new products to win7 support (i.e. new laptops that are about to be released that are not on the market yet)

Feck it! I think i'll just go with 7127. I'd say it'll be more stable than 7100 (marginally) anyway.

The question that comes to mind is, will 7127 receive critical updates? If not, 7100 would seem to be a better choice.

Yeah, i was wondering that too, but would anything be so wrong with 7127 that it would need any critical updates?
(At this rate i might just flip a coin between the 2)

Hmm... is 7127 the current RC or is that 7100? I just installed the x64 version of RC (7100) on a separate HDD. I am dual-booting with Vista Business SP1 x86. Up to now, I have had no problems. Does moving to 7127 require a re-installation?

7100 is the only publically released RC build. 7127 was leaked. 7127 will require a reinstallion like all the previous beta builds did. Whether you choose upgrade or clean install.

Thanks for the info. I will continue to play with RC1 (7100) and replace this build when the next RC is released by Microsoft. ;)

You could be waiting a long time.....Microsoft have made it clear there will only be one RC.....and you have that one.
Next Official release from Microsoft will be RTM.....and it will not be free.

i posted similar in another thread but just to reiterate; since upgrading from 7100 to 7127 i suffer from slower startup and shutdown. not a lot but it is noticeable.
