openoffice... base = M$ access what is .ext???

    Hello Friends,

can you 1st tell me what was the ms access extension.
    eg: word=.doc, excel=.xls, powerpoint=.pps

2nd I'm installing openoffice-portable for a friend, she too can't afford the real thing.
I have associated everything with the applications.
sample access files from microsoft ( .MDB and .ACCDT ) only open in writer (word for open office)
rebooted and still tries to open with the writer program-after about 2-3minutes.

    am I doing something wrong?

    thank you all

    Carmine

It's MS, not M$ (pet-peeve of mine...usually identifies the poster as a kiddie who doesn't know squat). Not that I'm accusing you...just drives me crazy.

Now, also, you should make sure .ppt is set to be Powerpoint-type, not just .pps. Also, I'm not sure if OpenOffice can handle them, but don't forget about all the new 2007/2010 file types as well, such as docx, xlsx, etc.

    thanks guys.
I also tried to do some type of association using ODBC, but I have no idea what I'm doing.

    WORKS does not work either.

I need to keep reading around, for now I must go to sleep.

    thank you all
