Sleep issues and more sleep!! Man. I cannot figure this out. I have a Dell Studio XPS 1640. Ati hd radeon 3670 with a 7200 rpm HD and 4 ghz ddr3 ram. I additionally run an hdmi out to an external monitor and have a logitech usb laser "cordless desktop".
I have gone through everything I can find in these forums. Incl. the power check magnifyer presentation ( nice job btw) to the Vista every possable setup I can think of link re advanced power management and what not. My laptop used to sleep but would always wake up. I changed nothing. Had the botchted 9.5 install, rolled back to a restore of 9.4 Catalyst and all is great in 64 bit RC 7100. Save this BLOODY sleep /hibernate anything issue! It's driving me nuts. I have unplugged everything and it still wil not go into sleep mode. It is a clean install. Everything else woks perfectly. I have never had this issue (of no sleep @ all) since the beta was released not any of the subdequant builds. Totally out of ideas. Please help me out here
BTW-I checked for the legacy drivers re my keyboard and mouse in Bios and they are not listed there. I have a Phoenix bios. The latest release from Dell.
Logitech had no answers for me. Maybe the 9.4 restore is causeing this? If so I am trapped as the 9.5 simply installs but does nothing.
I thank you for ANY help you can throw my way.
FTR-I Love Win 7

Check your bios. I had a sleep problem (couldn't wake up) and solved it by switching power management in bios from Auto to S3.
You could also try S1 (though this doesn't save much power. but is better than nothing).
I assume you've also tried fiddling with the Advanced settings in Power Management in Control Panel. Apparently you can also get third party power management apps, but I have no knowledge of these. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Memory 4 gig ram Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce 9500GT Monitor(s) Displays Samsung Syncmaster 226bw 22 inch |

Yes, the BIOS is a good idea.
Also, try going to Start > Run and type cmd.
Now type powercfg -energy
This sometimes gives inconsistent results, but may give you a clue. Don't worry about the USB errors, but you can find whether S3 is supported. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Cheap $399.00 E-Machine OS Windows 7 Pro & Vista Home Premium CPU Athlon 64 3800+ (Orleans) 2.40GHz Motherboard Winfast Memory 2GB DDR2 RAM DIMM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 512 MB memory HDMI out Sound Card creative X-Fi Exteme 7..1 channel Monitor(s) Displays Acer V223W 22" widescreen DVI Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Dell Mouse Sony Vaio PSU OCZ 550 watt Case Gateway Cooling 2 fans Hard Drives WDC WD5 500GB

Trying for Hibernation now... Thanks so much for all the feedback. Other than the install of 7137 I have tried all your suggestions and they have not worked. I realized, however, that in the end I would rather have my xps go into Hiberante anyhow. I do plan on installing the 7137 64 build (burned iso @ my desktop) but just need a simple way out of this situation b4 I install yet another build as I want to experiment with Sonar on this version. I am a musician and need to get my daw up and running.
So how does one change the set system to sleep option to hibernate instead? This was no prob for me in Vista sp1 64 but has simply never been offered in the beta or rc builds. Thanks again felllow Win 7 freaks

I cannot find this in my bios? It must be there. I see that my hd is set to S1 but no option isgiven to change it. I will re check power mangement area.

Thanks for the advice,

When I went to Control Panel > Power Options, clicked on the Change when my computer sleeps, click the Change advanced power settings, selected Sleep > Hibernate After and clicked on the never entry (which was the setting on my desktop PC). this allows you to change it to a specific time.
just wondered if you had already gone through this option. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Cheap $399.00 E-Machine OS Windows 7 Pro & Vista Home Premium CPU Athlon 64 3800+ (Orleans) 2.40GHz Motherboard Winfast Memory 2GB DDR2 RAM DIMM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 512 MB memory HDMI out Sound Card creative X-Fi Exteme 7..1 channel Monitor(s) Displays Acer V223W 22" widescreen DVI Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Dell Mouse Sony Vaio PSU OCZ 550 watt Case Gateway Cooling 2 fans Hard Drives WDC WD5 500GB

It is a strange issue but it has been mentione don various forums for diffearnt machines.
