I've heard about this, but why do they need to block the compiled date in the build number.

Why would there be an SP already? Surely Microsoft would just compile a build with the included updates/changes

Without the need for adding the SP1 tag

It's absurd, one build after 7137? BS

Makes no sense to have a release that already has a service pack added to it.

I've been hearing about this a bit. I think it's possible that MS is already working on SP1...especially seeing as how they have stated over and over that the RC is feature complete. The SP could be additional features that they have come up with since they froze the features.

I've heard about it, too. However, it makes perfects sense to me:

As I understand it, the path to RTM from RC is one of a feature lock-down with only performance tweaks and bug squashes going forward. Ergo, feature additions and enhancements would be sidetracked to a potential SP1 release.
