    Autoplay

Why do some devices (mainly external disc drives) automatically open autoplay whilst some I have to open "my computer" and select "open autoplay.

And some automatically start playing my selected autoplay option!

Does the CD/DVD have the autoplay.inf file?

No i don't think so - but windows search does seem to behave oddly on my 4 lacie drives!

Some automatically play content in WMP - some open the autoplay screen automatically and some require me to click on the drive and select autoplay.....

You can edit Windows 7 Auto play Feature Here:

Start --> Controle Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> AutoPlay

You can customize what autoplay does for different types of media / devices.

    Hope that helps.

It all depends on the file structure of the disc and the content on them. A DVD movie might open in WMP and play automatically, while a data disc may just prompt you with some options.
