Stopping annoying reminders to upgrade to IE8?

My default browser is Maxthon 2. This browser runs off IE. Although I have IE8 on the computer, I keep getting messages from MS asking me to upgrade to IE8. Also, my default opening page is MyYahoo, and lately I've been getting a little dropdown saying that MyYahoo recommends upgrading to IE8. Why is this happening and how can I stop it?

When windows advises, just say yes. It will go through the motions, but nothing will actually change; everyone wins

Thanks. I'll give it a try when the occasion arises. This is an intermittent problem and hasn't happened since your suggestion. However, a Maxthon forum response recommended that I select IE8 in the CustomUserAgent String field (MSC>Advanced), which I did. And, maybe that is the reason I haven't recently seen the problem?

Have you tried IE8 yet? It is the best ever in Win7, rock solid stable with better features than the others - which I've gradually gotten rid of.

Worth a try if only to get rid of the messages!

That was the problem, IE8 was already on board and I was getting these download messages from MS. My browser (Maxthon 2) wasn't set right for MS to realize that this was the case.

Maxthon may be based from Windows IE, but the engine and some components were tweaked/modified. That's why MyYahoo! detected it as a different browser. I know it's annoying but you can't stop it unless you really switch to IE8.

Since I have made a change in Mx2's configuration (MxSetupCenter>Advanced>from template choose IE8), all is now well. Problem, as explained by Mxguru's was that Mx didn't recognize that IE8 was on board...until I made the suggested change.
