how to capture an active window.

i have a log that needs to be scrolled to be able to read all of its information. i an working with someone on an issue i am having with video conversion. how can i capture the conversion log screen so that i can post it to an email or forum so the person i am sending it to can scroll the conversion log.

I understand what you're saying. Can you click on the start, scroll to the bottom, hold the shift key and click at the end, then copy and paste?

no it will not let me copy and paste. i tried using windows snippet tool but that does not let the person i am sending it to, to use the scroll.

I'm thinking of alternatives. Can you output the log to a text file? Not sure how the log is generated. You could do a screen capture using Camtasia or Camedia, which would create an avi file while you scrolled through the list.

how could i output the text to text file. can i attach a avi file to a email? also i need something that is free and not so complicated.

Just take multiple snips. Page down (don't scroll) and take a snip each time until you get to the bottom of the page. Send 'em all the snips.

Vista and now 7 in 32 and 64 bit.
 
 


One of the finest screen capture progs for this, is snagit. It can take scroll snaps and has many othert different kinds of capture techniques.
Downside is, it costs!
But you can try it:
