    Will 7 fix Vista errors

    Hello,
Today I had an error message while booting up my vista machine saying that it could not locate the USER32.dll file. If i upgraded to 7 using the windows 7 upgrade disk, will it fix it? I dont have a vista installation disk, and i cant find any vista disks where i currently am.

    Thank You,
    Teddy

    Hello & welcome to SevenForums.
If you do a clean installation, it will surely solve the problem of course.

Is this a persistent error for you?

It is likely related to an application or driver which is erroring. Look in Event Viewer>Admin View to find the error and google its exact wording and number to find how others have solved it. Look closely for the app which is said to cause the error and reinstall or repair it.

Sometimes running SFC will fix these: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If you decide to upgrade to Win7, I would do a clean install to start fresh without importing Vista corruption: Clean Install Windows 7

TKoomen- Welcome to the Windows 7 Forums! Do you have some more detailed computer specs (CPU, RAM, etc.) which might be critical to a Win 7 upgrade?

Doing a clean install will aways fix all issues. It's what I do when I find myself between a rock and a hard place.

Burn to CD the Vista Repair CD, boot it and run Startup Repair.

Next boot back in to the Recovery Tools list to run System Restore.

Next boot back in to open a Command Line run the SFC command given in my earlier post.

Do you have a retail Win7 DVD with product key you'd prefer to install? Do you need to copy out your files first? You'll need to use the Vista Repair CD to do so with this method: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Try tapping F8 at bootup to get Advanced Boot Tools. Is there Repair My Computer on the list which has the same tools?

If not try Last Known Good Configuration, or try booting into Safe Mode to use the troubleshooting steps given earlier.

Ive been doing that all day, safe mode is only a black screen with safe mode on each of the corners, last know config doesn't work either, the error pops up and prevents it from doing anything.
