My music etc. in start menu, link to root forlder, not library? Hi everyone
I dont use libraries and dont like the way that you cant have indivual folder views with them. So when I click on the start menu and have the links for 'music, pictures, video etc' i would like it to link straight to the root folder and not to the library
Does anyone know how to do this? | My System Specs |

If you right click on the Library
Then go to properties. You can click on the original host folder and delete it and then add your own by clicking on include a folder | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Q8400 2.66Ghz Motherboard MSI P45T Memory Transcend 4Gb DDR2 800 Graphics Card Asus 250 GTS 512mb Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 2330H Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech 350 Mouse Logitech Performance MX PSU Vantec ion2+ 600W Case Coolermaster Elite 350 Cooling 2x 120mm fans 2x90mm fans Hard Drives 1x 750 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12

Right click the root directory of your choice and choose "Send to desktop (Create shortcut)" or "create shortcut (will place it where you are currently at in file explorer)".
If you want it in the start menu then drag the shortcut to the start button and pin it to start menu (or to wherever you want to access the shortcut).
I use this technique to pin shortcuts of my choice on the links toolbar and then arrange as required. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Systemax N2000 Gaming PC OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Q6600 @2.4ghz (G0 stepping) Motherboard XFX nforce 680i LT Memory 8 gb OCZ vista essential sli PC-6400 Graphics Card Dual 9800gt in SLI mode Sound Card Integrated 8.1 High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dual Sceptre x246w 24 inch monitors Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 each monitor Keyboard MS Intelitype 6000 v2.0 Mouse MS Intelipoint 6000 PSU Cooler Master Real Power Pro 1250W Case N2000 server tower Cooling Thermaltake Bigwater 760 is Hard Drives 500 GB SATA II / 7500 rpm Internet Speed Wi-power 1.5GB up / 512k down Other Info Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Windows 7 Pro x64, Windows Home Premium X86, Windows XP pro, Windows Home Server x86, Ubuntu 10.4 x86 and x64, Ubuntu server 10.4, SQL Server 2005, MySQL 5.0 |

Welcome to Sevenforums Robo,
I felt the same as you when I first encountered Libraries.
I have now seen the light and am a strong supporter of the concept.
Libraries have simplified my life, especially since I can have folders with, for example, music spread all over the system and yet I can easily access them via libraries. Sure makes backups and transfers easy.
Heck, I've even created a couple of special libraries which are useful to me.
Libraries don't actually move anything on your computer, but rather make the library info accessible easily.
As time goes on, familiarize yourself with more and more of the features and power of libraries. They are here to stay. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba Satellite S875D-S7239 laptop OS MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit CPU AMD A10-4600M Motherboard AMD Pumori (Socket FT1) Memory 6.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-12-28) Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD 7660G Sound Card High Definition Audio Device Monitor(s) Displays Generic PnP Monitor (1600x900@60Hz) Screen Resolution 1600x900@60Hz Keyboard Standard PS/2 Keyboard Mouse HP Wireless Optical Mobile Mouse Model FHA-3410 Hard Drives SSD 119GB Corsair CSSD-V128GB2 ATA Device Internet Speed What the local pub, local coffee shop offers. Does anyone know how to do this? Hello Rob, and welcome to Seven Forums.
This can help show you how to change the Start Menu Music button on the dark right side to open to the "C:\Users\(user-name)\My Music" location instead. Start Menu User Folder Buttons - Open to Users Instead of Libraries
Hope this helps,
