Windows 7: Folders don't get focus

Folders don't get focus

on a fresh install of Win 7 64 bit, in some situations when I open a folder (for eg. when I right-click on a link and choose open containing folder), the folder doesn't come to the front. It opens but sits blinking on the taskbar. I want it to get focus and come to the front. Does anyone know where the options for that sort of behaviour are?

Thanks muchly.

Screenshot? I don't think so. Well I could but it wouldn't be so helpful. I'd need a video grab
I've discovered it's more than folders. For example I just double clicked on a an avi file in a folder, and while Windows Media player started playing it, the window remained behind the folder I was in and then you have the windows Media Player icon on the taskbar glowing and throbbing at me ;0

If you don't mind a small registry edit,

Active window to front

should fix that right up for you.

OK, thanks for that. Any idea why it's happening? It doesn't happen on my laptop, also installed with Win 7 64 bit. I can't understand where the issue is coming from.

Focusing issues often happen when running another software in the background... perhaps a torrent client or an a/v scan... I used to experience the same problems a few months ago, but it hasn't happened in ages, so its a bit of mystery to myself.

Can i make a certain app always have input focus?
In other words, no matter what else is open i want any keyboard stroke to go to this particular app, we'll call it app #1. So if i have app #1 open on 1/2 the screen and then click something on the desktop, then i hit a keyboard stroke, app#1 will react to the keystroke. Is this possible?

Focus is not on folders/files when explorer window opens
Hi, In XP, if I opened up a folder, I could start typing and the folders/files list view would jump down according to the letters I typed in. In Windows 7, this does not happen - the focus remains in the left panel (i.e. Favourites, Libraries, Homegroup etc). Does anyone know if there is a...

Hi I use multi media player (xbmc) on my secondary display. I launch it thanks to my remote which sends keystrokes. In fact it simulates a keyboard. Pressing F1 launches xbmc. As I m watching a video, if somebody works on the internet on the primary display, xbmc loses the focus and the...

If I am typing a document or doing something with another piece of software (other than my email), and my email client (which is set to check for mail every 15 minutes) downloads some email, the email client takes the focus away from what I was doing. Why is this so and how can I change it? My...
