there are several ways to download the pre-rtm, just search google and i bete in few clicks you can get it (you need to download the new iso)

One last question, when I download the updated build will it install over the old one preserving all of my programs or is it gonna blow everything away and I have to reinstall everything?

Upgrading is an option that yes, would preserve your existing settings / programs. Although many are successful, it's recommended one does a clean install.

For the sake of it, upgrade if things seem shaky then fall back to the clean install later.

Yes, if you upgrade it will keep all files intact...
please remove your Firewall and Antiviris... first. you can reinstall after the upgrade.
