Hello,

I just got a new computer in the office, and it uses windows7 (professional edition, placed in domain...)
The setting is at single click, and i cannot change it to double click. I even see that the double click option is activated and the single click option is grayed out...

I tried the tutorial of the forum (even the registry donwload - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/10117-single-click-double-click-open-item.html) but no result...

Does anyone has a solution?

allready thanks.

What brand of Mouse do you have and have you downloaded latest driver for it?
Edit My System Specs as it will help us in the future.

Tx for the reply...

I have to look at the office on monday. I forgot my laptop in the office. I use an normal mouse via USB.

Could it be an administrator setting or is it because the computer (laptop) is part of a domain or would it be the driver?

I allready updated all my drivers like printers, monitor, ... Windows didn't mensioned that there was an update for the mouse driver...

allready thanks.

Hi koenh,

The default setting for this is to double-click (personally, I don't like this, so I set mine to single-click).

Do other machines in your office exhibit the same behaviour? It could be a setting that your Systems Administrator has enforced using Group Policy and at the same time prevented users from changing it (hence greyed-out settings). If this is the case, and you want to change this, you will need to have a word with him/her.

This does seem like an odd policy, because that is a feature that people should be able to change according to their personal preferences.

Hello,

All windows7 users have the same setting... And most of them find it annoying.

I allready spoke with the system administrator, but he hasn't put any settings like that on purpose.
Does anyone know how he can disable that group policy?

tx.

Here is a link to a similar thread, but with a different option grayed out. Read to the last message (8 posts), which purports to have a fix. It involves a registry edit, but your admin should have no problem with that. Don't know if this would resolve your issues or not. My inital thought was that it is a side effect of some group policy or shell setting, but who knows? Here's the thread:

http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/18319-folder-options-single-click-double-click.html

The thread is marked solved, but the OP solved it with a repair install, as suggested by Brink. I doubt your admin would go for that, though...

I found this also, which is also related to Classic Shell:

Open the Registry and go to the toolbar to Edit>Find
Type in "ClassicShell"
Perform the search.
If you find ClassicShell in the right Pane. Right click on it and delete.
Press F3 to continue. Let the registry keep searching until you get a message that it has finished.
Log off and back on to see the change.

Ok, thanks everyone!

I just had to do this trick:
The trick is to set ClassicShell to 0 in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer].

Good you got it. Deleting it would have also worked. Thanks for letting us know.

I'm pleased that you have solved your problem. Has this re-enabled the double/single click function for the mice so that those who do want to change this feature can, or is it still grayed out?

No, it is not longer grayed out.
I tried to change the setting, and that worked for the single click and the double click.

Hope this helps you.
