How to reinstall Advanced Boot Tools?

I have several cases where F8 Advanced Boot Tools no longer function.

Is there a way to repair or replace these without reinstalling OS?

Am going to try a Repair Install but want to ask first since someone may know. SFC doesn't do it.

Could this be the result of running bootsect command to reassert Win7 in a Dual Boot where XP still resides on the drive? There is some history with Dual Boots removing F8 options.

    Thanks.

So you can no longer use F8 or you can still use it but no longer have the advanced tools?

F8 does nothing, no matter how often or energetically it's pressed on a PS2 keyboard with no F-lock.

I would be guessing but it sounds like you're on the right track with the bootsect command overwriting the mbr and removing the f8 option.

Repair Install did not work but reimaging did.

Theory is that bootsecting to remove Dual Boot corrupted BCD. Repair Install held changes in place, while Reimaging got back before them.

Strange thing happened with a third approach: Startup Repair repaired Partition Table, with root cause given as "No OS files on drive." Likely unrelated.

Bootrec commands are automated in Win7 Startup Repair which I did run.

Normally I would only run bootrec manually when no installation shows to repair.

Perhaps I should have run it separately?

Well MS does recommend to run bootrec commands manually if Startup repair fails to do the job.

Bill do you happen to know if bootrec is a known fix for missing Advanced Boot Tools?

    It's a very good idea.

Greg, has this been solved? I mean, other than re-imaging the HD. This thread has been flagged as being solved.

I suppose that would be correct if the only option is to re-image the HD.
