Windows 7: Why are files in so many places?

Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

Thanks. I'm going to try to get by without doing a new install. I had to reinstall everything in June when my motherboard died and again in September when my HD died. I'm all burned out. For now it seems fine. My Carbonite backup seems to be fine (although still too big-I think I have duplicates on it) and so far it appears that I can access all of my files on this computer and on my network as well. I'll set up the win7 backup utility too, and have it back up to my EHD. I was planning to do that once all my backup was restored through Carbonite (which it is now-it just took about a month). Thanks to everyone for the help. It really did clear things up for me.

Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

Thank you. I have, in fact, been reading a ton of threads here and it has helped me tremendously to customize and use windows 7. At first I hated it with a passion but once I read some tutorials here, and was able to fix it up the way I like it, I am happy with it. This is now the first place I go to find out what to do when I have a problem-and usually I can find it without having to ask.

Administrator doesn't have permission to save files in some places
I'm running into a weird permissions issue I've never seen before on my brand new computer I got for Christmas. My computer has only one user account, since I'm the only person who uses it, and that account has administrator rights. Yet for some reason, I'm getting told I don't have permission to...

Recent Places - files that I didn't open
I was cleaning out my computer and when I went into recent places there was a file in there that I didn't open. There was also a lot of webpages on just one day that were in the history that I didn't go into. Both of these things happened around the same time. Is it possible that I was hacked?

Nimi Places
Why love Nimi Places? - This little app, along with the others made by this same person, is amazing. If you've used Fences, this is kinda like that... but it looks better. :p And it adds entire folders. Check the screenshot; I used my Music and Scripts folders as examples.
