That an HP? If so they are known for being loaded with bloatware, so you'll want to first go to msconfig>Startup and turn off everything except your AV and gadgets/stikynotes if u use them at startup. Troubleshooting with MSCONFIG

HP has a connection manager that slows your system and startup (like most bloatware) so turn it off and set up your connection in the bottom right system tray.

Use a lightweight free AV like MS Security Essentials with the Win7 Firewall. Uninstall the bloated AV that came with your HP using Revo Uninstaller: Use Advanced mode, it will set a restore point and run Windows uninstaller, don't restart at prompt but click Next to Delete all the bolded Reg keys and files it leaves behind.

Follow this same procedure for all the bloatware you don't want, after you decide.

Bloatware can corrupt Win7 even by its uninstall so periodically run SFC -SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to repair system files and see if any have corrupted requiring a Repair Install or clean reinstall.

Most makers no longer include OS DVD so they can enforce the bloatware which provides most of their profit margin (exception: Business computers). This causes tech enthusiasts to locate a clean-copy installer for their version or unlock all versions in any retail installer, to clean reinstall using the Product Key on COA sticker affixed to computer. First make your Recovery disks or save a Windows 7 backup image so you have a path back to factory condition. This also leaves you free to delete the Recovery partition and any OEM partition since most factory utilities located there will have their links broken when you clean reinstall.

The installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Any drivers then missing in Device Manager can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or device.

Install programs slowly over time to gauge performance after each. Don't let any programs write themselves into msconfig>Startup as they become freeloaders on your RAM/CPU and can spy on you.

When it is finished, clean and order the HD perfectly using state-of-the-art free CCleaner then Auslogics Disk and Registry defraggers monthly.

could you clarify what AV is?

Anti VIrus. Free MSE and Avast work so well with the Win7 Firewall (updated regularly) that you can avoid using anything else unless you are prone to infection. Then add free Malwarebytes for on-demand scanning.
