    Don't understand Windows 7 search!

Right page1 shows my pics folder!

    Page 2 shows another folder!

    Page 3 yet another!

Page 4 shows the results of a jpg search - and comes back with no items found!

There obviously are jpegs there so why doesnt search find them!

Some things seemed so much simpler before ....

Not sure of question. If you are having trouble with Search, are you Indexing? That is needed.

    This may help you...

I have now managed to upload my evidence - why does windows 7 search not simply find all the files called *.jpg in my pics folder?

Because your pics folder is located on drive "D". You will need to add drive "D" to your search index.

If it's just about file searches, I rely on Everything It's faster than Windows search because it doesn't index file content. But of course, if you don't include drive D it won't find your pics there either.

Or, in your search results window, scroll to the end and under "search again in" click "computer" It will now search your entire system, including your D drive, albeit, a lot slower.

Part of this is a slight issue with how Windows Search 4.0 works. Windows Search 4.0 is part of Windows 7's search function.

Unless you tell it to index your different drives and it finally creates an index of those locations, it won't 'readily' see files you might be looking for.

If you are also using Outlook or other MS products that might have relevant information, Windows Search will try to integrate into that (Outlook 2007, for instance, its 'quick search' for more 'defined' searching, requires Windows Search 4.0 to be installed AND needs time to create an index before you can actually use it to its full capability.)

Just checked and D is in my indexing list!

I have also run the indexing troubleshooter and that says all is a-ok!

I have just deleted and rebuilt the index - it took about a minute and only appeared to index 198 items!
