Performance issues after motherboard change
Hi all,
I have been using W7pro retail on an asus p5 deluxe motherboard for some time.
recently I have had video outages which I eventually narrowed down to a psu failure.
(the board would startup, drives and fans spinning but no post or video - as if the entire back panel was knoced out!)
In the interim I have a motherboard with integrated gpu - a gigabyte g41m-es2h
It did the same syptoms as described above, which told me it was a psu not a gpu issue which I first thought. To eliminate any doubt I also re-installed W7 afrer easy transfer all the users.
I only have the base system and MS office installed now until I clear up some of these niggles.
I have the following issues:
1) Upon booting, W7 seems to spend a long time looking for the network connection wheras on my old board it never used to. anything up to a minute, and while its doing this it takes over the machine so nothing else will work.
2) Screen flicker and poor display performance from one of the user accounts.
Windows update at times refuses to update! it's all up to date now, but it threw up some interesting error messages.
- I have three user accounts; admin (admin); myself and my partner (regular)
- the screen is a samsung syncmaster 204B, with optimal resolution set to 1600x1200.
- On the admin and myself account I can have the screen set to 1600x1200 with no problems. however on partner account, I get issues with flickering and loss of resolution.
- I've tried to update the drivers from the intel website but this has not solved anything, making me think that it is something in the user profile which is upsetting matters.
- When we set the display to 1280x1024 it's fine and behaves ok.
If you could shed some light on these strange occurences that would be very helpful.
