Windows 7: ScreenSaver - Making My Own?!

Can I use a a picture I've saved in "My Pictures" as my screensaver, if so, how?

OK. But I had to select "Photos" from the pull-down menu ... and that only allowed me to select a 'Folder' , not an individual picture. Apparently it's designed to set up a slideshow of pictures contained in a selected folder. So I created a folder of just the one picture I wanted displayed, set the timing to '600 minutes', and it worked.

However, I'm a terminology-challenged non-techinal user. Once I saw what that created, I realized I didn't want a "screensaver"!

I don't know what it's actually called, but when i was running under Windows XP some years ago, someone once showed me how to select a picture that Windows XP used as a "background" when displaying my Desktop.

If you know what I'm talking about, I'd appreciate your telling me how to do that under Windows 7.

Right click anywhere on your desktop (make sure it's the desktop background itself and not a browser window, explorer window etc.) and select "personalize" from the drop down.

You'll see a list of "themes" you can chose from. on the bottom of this themes window, you'll see "desktop background" as selectable. Click on it and navigate to the photograph you want to use as your desktop background. Open>Apply>OK. Done!

Alternately, click on the Start orb and...Control Panel>Personalization. Then follow the above guide lines.

Yes, and it's easy! The way you do it is to right-click on your Desktop, go into Personalize, then Screen Saver, and in the Screen Saver drop down list, select Photos. The Screen Saver app then uses the My Pictures folder as the source of your screen saver(s).

You will then have 2 choices as to which photo(s) you want as your screen savers: 1. You can either get all of the images in that folder randomly appearing as your screen savers -- like a personalized slide show. Very cool!!! Or, 2. if you only want that one picture to be the sole screen saver, you would have to take all of the other images out of the My Pictures folder (just transfer them to another folder, or create a new folder to transfer them into and call it, for example, "My Pictures 2.") Then, you will have just the one remaining image that you wanted as your screen saver.

PS Just wanted to clarify the difference between using a Screen Saver and a Background photo. The Background photo appears continually, as the background image on your Desktop -- but it does not suddenly turn on after your Desktop has been open for that certain period of time that you've set for your Screen Saver. In order to have an image appear at that certain time (that you set), you have to set it to appear as a Screen Saver, not as a Background image.

I realized what I was confused about: the pull-down menu doesn't let me go down to the "picture level" ... it stops at the lowest-level folder ... so I couldn't select the picture I wanted 9then & there). But when I clicked on the folder that contained the picture I wanted, it *then* let me select the picture - but that wasn't clear.

Anyway, it worked out, so thanks for your help.
