Temporay Folder for recordings?

So I had a pretty long recording going on (over an hour) and my laptop ran out of battery and shut down. Is there a way to recover that recording? Does windows automatically save that file in a temporary folder somewhere and if so where can I find it?

Also to avoid this in the future, is there a way I can keep saving a recording every 20 mins but still keep continue recording so even if my computer shutdown I would have only lost a part of the recording not that whole thing. Sometime to consider in the future if it is not possible yet

Thanks

This question can't be intelligently answered without knowing what recording program you are using.

But.... in the settings, or options, in that program there may be a tab or section that deals with file paths. Check that out and see if there is a temp directory.

If you know what extension the program uses for temp files you could search with Windows Explorer for that extension. In Nero the temp file is a wav file. You could also search for large files, about the size of a one hour recording. But most likely if the recording was not finished it was not saved at all and all the work was only static electricity that went poof.

Best practice: Never do Mission Critical work on battery power!
This includes installing programs, doing Windows Updates, transferring large files, and now, recording hour long files.

In Windows Explorer you have an "Incomplete" folder for incomplete downloads. That would be the first place to check. As TVeblen said, we'd have to know which app you were using for your recording, but incomplete downloads of many apps and programs do end up in the Incomplete folder, so that's a good place to start.
