Smart choice - at this point, wait and get a legit DL and key to try it out and you don't have to worry tweaks that hose dialog boxes and cracks that backfire and remembering before 30 days are up to reset it....

So when the public beta is released how would one go about getting a legit copy of Windows 7 along with a legit product key?

The fine folks at Microsoft will have a full set of instructions on what you need to do to both get the DL / disc and get the key when it comes out.

I wouldn't want to speculate as there are a number of different ways this can happen....

So Microsoft will just let anyone download a legit version for free? Is it just the first few people like it was with Longhorn? BTW, my username refers to the download speed of the build 7000 torrent

I have heard some rumors from a friend who works for Gartner that if things go as planned the M$ will start the public beta on Thursday or Friday so maybe at midnight it may go live & let the downloading begin.
