Black screen after long up time

I've experienced this problem at least twice. I have left my computer up while I went to work or just left the computer running for a long time unattended and when I tried to use it again I cannot get the screens to come up, they just stay black no matter what I do i.e. move the mouse, hit a key on the kb, and ctl alt del. I am running RC1 64bit (fresh install). Anyone else experiencing this?

    Thanks,
    Eric

Have you tried turning your monitor off then back on to see if it comes back up? I have my monitor flash the screen then go to black, flash the screen, go to black many times, even since having Vista installed. Does it go black after the screensaver or the monitor turns off, or will it just sort of crash( black screen) even when actively using the machine?

you should navigate to "power options" and try to disable "turn off the display" and "put the computer to sleep". obvious something is not right, but when i was using vista i could not get my computer to wake up from hibernate, no matter what drivers, modded or not, i was using.

Good suggestion, but it seems like it's the sleep option failing to work properly. You might want to look at Brink's tutorial Power Efficiency Diagnostics Report and see if that helps.

I have the computer set to never sleep. It's not that it went to sleep or that it is hibernating. I can tell that it is still up and running. It's just that if I have left it on for a whole lot of hours without doing anything on it I can't get the screen to come up. Yes I have turned the monitors off and on. BTW I am running dual monitors. Maybe I'll try newer drivers for my 8800 gt, if there are any.

    Thanks,
    Eric

That might be the way to go, let us know if it helps.

I think I've been having this same trouble lately, and although this was posted a while back, I did turn off the sleep option and screen option. Hopefully, it won't do this anymore. I'll let you know if it does.
