HELP! Duplicate (outdated) files appear!

Ive built a new computer for my wife and (yeah, I know Im stupid) installed Win7 on it because been using it (build7100) for a while and it runs smooth, fast and stable.
But Ive copied all her "old hard drive" works files to a flash drive and then copied it to the new Win7 machine.
On the old machine she created files inside a folder and a day later she separed (moved) those files in different sub folders to make them more organized.
But when copied to the new Win7 machine suddenly she noticed that the files now are duplicated, inside the original folder and inside the sub folders. Its as if the old version of the files (the one that where outside the sub folder) suddenly appeared on the original folder, AND on the sub folders (but obviosly they have differend "modified" date stamp, differing only in one day, as she created and moved those files with one day difference). Hope Ive made myself enogh clear.....
Thanks in advance!

Not sure what to say. It could have been a misclick with the mouse while holding ctrl, there might have been some system restore thingy going on, or something else i cant think of. Have you made sure you have hidden files not shown and the files that she moved are in fact the files and not shortcuts?

Have you tried deleting the duplicated again that aren't organized and seeing if they reappear? I am assuming the 7100 was a clean install as well.

Have you tried restarting the computer since you deleted them to make sure they are not coming back?

Glad it is working correctly now. Now you don't have to go back to XP.

The files are exactly the same in contents? You want to "organize" them in folders so there is only 1 copy of each? There are several apps that will match the contents of one folder to another so you could pour the folder (and all sub folders) to another location where the folder structure would be the same and the contents would contain only 1 of each file. Is that right?

You could check out folder match and folder clone. Both do that really easily

If I misunderstood and you want to do something else let me know

Good luck

Yeah, it's working ok (or at least it seems) but anyway I have now to figure out wich file was at folder root level and wich one was not there before......
