Windows 7: Lost Admin Privileges

Lost Admin Privileges

Hi

I seem to have lost admin rights/privileges on my account, even though it says i am an admin. I can't use windows update because of the following message. UAC is off.

I created another account and swapped admin privileges to that, and everything was ok, but as soon as i swap the privileges back to my original account, i get various 'this action requires admin rights' etc etc

I'm confused. I don't want to keep logging into another admin account just so i can use windows update.

I've tried this, but it said it couldn't fix all the problems. What can i try next folks?

Cheers

Just set up a new account. Give yourself privileges for the software in the first account. Make that the new account. The first account is corrupt

You can try this, too.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hello Lethagized,

You might also try step 1 in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below to enable access to Windows update to see if that may be part of the issue.

Windows Update - Enable or Disable Access

Hope this helps,

I tried that method in my original post Rich.

Nice try Brink. I almost jumped off the seat with excitement then, but unfortunately still no go.

If the user account is corrupt could always try this method; Fix a corrupted user profile

You might also check in gpedit.msc in both the Computer Configuration and User Configuration, Adminstrative Templates, Windows Components, and Windows Update locations to make sure that they are all set to Not Configured.

Still no joy folks. Everything is set at Not Configured in GPedit, and when i try the option that Bugsy suggested by copying user files from 1 profile to another, i get an error when trying to move the Application data folder. Access denied. Tried taking ownership, adding my name to permissions etc etc, but it just won't have it.

Spent way to long messing about, and to be fair, the computer runs sweet as a nut except for this, so i'm just going to leave it be, and log into the other account when i want to update windows.

Thanks anyway peeps

Its a long shot but you could try this Open up command prompt, right click and run as admin to open the administrative control panel, type the following and hit enter
TAKEOWN /A /F C:
then the next one
TAKEOWN /F C:
