    Fax modem dialtone

Prior to installing W7 I was able to hear the fax modem on the pc speaker. I also put a new MoBo in. Maybe no speaker on it. How can I check without opening the case? If there is pc speaker how do I get it to make the telephone sounds? If not, can I make the sounds on my regular speakers? I feel better when I know the modem is dialing.

My modem was on a seperate card with the speaker.

This is what your moboard has onboard. Phy Gb LAN

You need a seperate modem card. That will have the speaker on it.

There is a way to turn the sound on and off or it will say Enable/Disable.

I don't have the modem installed on this PC.
I'll see if I can find where you would do the enable.

No luck on the MS web sight.

I have been off dial-up long enough I forgot how to do it.

    Sorry

    Far I can remember:

Right click on the modem icon, choose properties and there should be enable sound option there.

All sound related opton are enabled. Still no dialtone or modem dialng. Can't hear anthing related to modem. I only use the modem to send faxes and that works. Is there anyway to use my other speakers?

I have an external dynalink modem with the audio line in/line out ports on the side.
I keep it for novelty reasons.
Back in the day when shi... stuff... was cool, it was just a matter of using a cable from the modem to the sound card line in. Havnt dealt with internal modems in a long time...

But now as Im typing this, I do remember there were those 'other commands' in the devices properties page.
    s=1, either refered to sound=1 or speed=1.

Go to Device Manager, right click the name/model of the modem, go to the Modem tab and move the Speaker volume slider to On.

EDIT: Scratch that. I just plugged in my USB modem and tried exactly what I stated and I couldn't get a sound either.
    Working on it.

W7 fax program does not recognize modem

I was able to send a fax from W7 yesterday. Since then I updated the driver and the program now does not recognize the modem . I rolled back the driver but that did not help. Now all the faxes I try to send have a pending status.
Modem is Agere PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem
Fax program is Windows Fax and Scan (a part of W7 Ultimate

Try a System Restore to before the driver update. BTW why did you update the driver if it was working OK?

    I don't know. I just can't resist keeping current.
Anyway, I uninstalled the modem and let Windows reinstall. Everything OK now Even have the dial tone thing working again
