Lost desktop icons?? Hello!
Just discovered this forum... Nice to meet you guys
I have the leaked beta installed. Somehow, last night I managed (win+D? Not sure) to hide all my desktop items - shortcuts, system icons, files, and gadgets. Now I can't get them back! The gadgets are still running (I know this because the wallpaper continues to be changed by one), the desktop is empty...
Any ideas?
Thanks!

....duh. And, of course, moments after I wrote this, I right-clicked on the desktop, show desktop icons. Mmmmyeah. But there *is* something different, because I didn't hide them this way... | My System Specs | | |

You probably hit a key combination that toggles the desktop icons hide feature. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Apple MacBook OS OS X Leopard, Vista Basic and Windows 7 Ultimate CPU 2.1GHz Penryn Intel Core 2 Duo Motherboard Not sure Memory 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM Graphics Card Crappy integrated one Sound Card Not sure Monitor(s) Displays Built in one, it's a laptop Screen Resolution 1280x800 Keyboard Apple laptop one with the annoying caps lock button Mouse No, it's a trackpad PSU Not sure Cooling Fans Hard Drives 120GB HD, 100GB OS X Leopard partition and 20GB Vista Home Basic partition Internet Speed 8 meg (or so the ISP tells me) Other Info I accidentally whacked the side of it against a door this morning. |

I just did some experimenting, and the only way 'documented' to hide the desktop icons is the same way the OP found them again - Right click desktop --> View 00> {show/hide} Desktop icons
However, this can be accomplished also by right clicking the Desktop, then hitting the V key and then the D key.
Interestingly enough, though, when performing this, hiding the icons *also* hides the build info painted on the desktop. And since it is this easy to hide DT icons, I can now start playing with Rocket Dock *Yay* | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number The Beast Model V OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Core i7 965 EE @3.6 GHz Motherboard eVGA x58 Classified3 Memory 3 * 4GB Mushkin Enh Redline CL7 DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3-12800) Graphics Card eVGA 560 Ti 448 Core Classified + eVGA GTX260 SSC (PhysX) Sound Card Realtek HD Audio (on-board) Monitor(s) Displays 2 * Acer X213Wbd Screen Resolution 2 * 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Keyboard Mouse Logitech Performance Mouse MX PSU ThermalTake BlackWidow TX TR2 850 W Case ThermalTake Level 10 GT (Black) Cooling Corsair H100 CPU | 2 * TT 140mm TriLED | 2 * Antec TriCool Hard Drives 1 * Intel Cheryville 520 180 GB SATA III SSD |
