Question on backups?
How do I back up my computer than when I back it up again it only backs up what has changed? Kinda like apples time machine?
I'm udon an acer windows 7 home premium laptop?

If you are referring to the incremental back up and you want a full back up, you have several choices. You can delete the previious back up or back up to another drive. An external hard drive would be a good choice, rather than the hard drive the system is on.

Hi Michael and welcome to the forums... As far as I know, the native backup program in windows does not do incremental backups ... Have a look here for suggestions...

The backup feature built into Windows 7 does incremental backups. The first time you run the backup feature, it will need to be set up. You'll need to tell it where and what you want to backup. Your first backup will be a complete, full backup of all the data that you specify. After that, Windows will start doing incremental backups of only the data that has changed, or been added since the last backup. Every once in a while, though, Windows will do another complete, full backup. These full backups are called backup "periods" and will show up in date ranges When you click "view backups".
When you set up your first backup, you can specify what data you want backed up or you can let Windows decide. Don't be afraid to let Windows decide because when you do, Windows will backup everything, including, all your personal data, settings, themes, libraries, mail, contacts, etc. This includes data for *all* users on your PC. The only thing Windows 7 won't backup is the operating system, itself, and any installed non windows programs.
The good news; When you let Windows decide what to backup, it will also automatically create a system image. The system image will restore your entire system back to a state that it was in when the image was made, operating system, and all.

I do backups once a day without the system image. On my system it does incremental for a period of 5-7 days before creating a new backup set.
Does anyone know what controls the creation of a new set? I would prefer to have control over this.

I think it's, of course, a good idea to back up your system frequently on a regular basis, but in regard to the backup features built into Vista and Windows 7 -- they're all well and good, but for me, I feel safest if I copy my folders/files (particularly all of my personal folders/files) to a third party device -- completely separate from my laptop. That way when the inevitable happens, I know that my data is safe, no matter what.

I will be using an external drive, what folders are best to back up? My personal folder with pics videos ECt...? Also will the backups be accessible in the acer backup management. What's the difference between system image to restore or using acre recovery to restore?

For the important part
The acer restore brings you back to day one; factory restore. It will be like the day you brought it home
System Image can be a lot more timely and up to date.
Back up all your data. If it is important enough to have, there should be a backup
