Windows 7: New Administrator Mishap

Hello,

So I had to create a new administrator user on my laptop and went ahead and deleted the original administrator account. Now whenever I use my internet browser (Mozilla), I cannot install anything onto my computer and enter certain sites such as Yahoo (because of an SSL protocol is disabled, which isn't in options). Also whenever I open previously downloaded programs like Limewire or Adobe, it prompts the wizard when one installs a program and all my saved settings have been erased. Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and help!

Did you get the admin account established before you deleted the default one?

You can always use the "hidden" one if you need to. Hope this helps.

Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

I think so. I went into Control Panel and created a new administrator account - nothing more than that and deleted the old account.

I don't know a way around the wizards running when you open programs without looking at it (and thinking some more) but you should be able to create another admin account and get everything working again. Use the hidden one if you have to....then disable it when you have everything working the way you want. I did about the same thing one time on XP. I just had some inconvenience for a few days.

If you have somehow managed to delete your last/only administrator account it will not be possible to activate the Hidden administrator account, as this requires administrator rights to action.

However, as a fail safe windows should automatically activate the hidden administrator account in these circumstances, but only in Safe Mode.

You could try booting into safe mode, (tap F8 after the initial POST but before windows starts to boot), hopefully this will give you access to safe maode as administrator which will allow you to create anothor administrator account for day to day use.

Cant you use the net user admin /active? I blew up my only normal user so I cant check.

The problem with the Net user options is that they require administrator rights to run. If they could be run as a standard user then anyone could use them to change the admin passwords or to enable the administrator, thus removing any security in the system.

as a last resort fix you could try this disk ....

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor

You will need to download the ISO and burn this to disk using a suitable ISO burning program. This disk will allow you to rebuild your users

That NT Password & registry editor DOES work. Just to confirm Barman's recommendation. I had to use it on Vista on a computer I was fixing, It's not for the faint of heart but it works.

OK from what I understand, the hidden administrator will only allow me to download everything I need? What if I want my new administrator account to simply be my old administrator (original) account? Is there a easy way? Thank you
