Does Win7 Starter use less memory than other editions?

I notice that most netbooks installed with 1GB RAM only. Some of the newer Atom N550 CPU netbooks don't even allow user to upgrade memory (panel underneath locked). So I wonder if 1GB is truely enough for Starter edition because it uses less memory than others?

Yes, they use less memory. They also have less features.
They are good to use as a starter, if you are on a budget.

One gig is minimum, but dont expect to have the best possible performance, but it will work
Great for emai and surfing the net. Dont expect to get good performace with high resource hogs like games.

I know that Starter is missing a lot of features, but I do not believe that that causes it to use less RAM. 1GB is the minimum for Windows 7 and netbooks are meant to be barebones PCs. I think the fact that most netbooks have 1GB of RAM is just to keep the price as low as possible.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my 1 GB netbook. It is perfectly fine! No issues. Of course I'm not going to be running super high-demand applications or a lot at one time, but it is a netbook not a workstation. I have my browser and my IM client running almost constantly on it.
