    Restoring full permissions

Somehow, I no longer have full permissions to parts of my hard drive, even though this is an administrator account (and the only one on the computer).

For example, when I try to replace files in Program Files, it says "Destination Folder Access Denied - You need permission to perform this action". Downloads to My Downloads occasionally fail as well. Trying to set the folder permissions via Properties -> Security gives an access denied error.

    Any suggestions?

    Welcome
Make sure that you have ownership
    WARNING
If you do not have ownerhsip, usually the system/trusedinstaller has ownership. These are usually system files which should not be touched. Program files can affect your programs.
That being said, if you are sure that the files that you are trying to change are your files and changes will not cause problems, try this

I've taken ownership of everything in C: that I could, as well as changing the Security settings for my user folder. However, I still receive the following error:

Even though I have full permissions?

When I try downloading a file, it is not able to be saved due to write permissions or something.

If you are my age you will remember the TV series Lost In Space. Whenever there was danger the robot would say "Warning Warning.

So I say to you Warning, Warning, use this with care and be sure you know what you are trying to change

Another thing to try, if you haven't already, is a System Restore , choosing a restore point that pre-dates the problem, if available.

Alright, solution found! There was some service I'd disabled (don't know which one); re-enabling the normal startup services fixed it. I realized this when I wasn't able to edit the group policies under the administrator account.

Thank you all for your help.

For future reference, could you post which service it was that caused your problem?

    Thanks,

I'm sorry, I wish I'd kept a record of the changes I made; I just re-enabled normal startup and it worked. It must've been something by Microsoft Corporation in msconfig.
