| Windows 7: Retrieving a product key |

Reusing a product key I bought the windows 7 installer as an upgrade from vista. I bought it using the student discount. My hard drive went bad, but I used to be able to log onto windows. Now it's past that point and every time I try to boot windows, it will give me an error message. When I log into Ubuntu from my flash drive, it fully recognizes my bad hard drive and can read files from it. I am getting a new hard drive anyway but, how can I get the product key off this hard drive so that way use it on my new hard drive to install windows 7? I have the key printed, but how can I use the key again if it is already in use?

Sorry, I worded it wrong, I have the key printed, and on an external hard drive, but technically the key is in use. Since the key is in use, wouldn't it NOT let me use it again? That's what I'm really asking, sorry for the confusion | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo Thinkpad Edge OS Windows 7, Windows Vista |

You dont need to retreive the key- as long as you dont use that old drive or junk it, you are fine using it on a new one. At the most, you may need to activate windows by calling MS. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Too many to describe... OS Windows 7 x64 pro/ Windows 7 x86 Pro/ XP SP3 x86 |
