    why Win7 always seems "busy"?

I've been using Win7 for just over a week. the hard disk often spinning like doing something even though i wasn't touch the laptop. before i install win7 (fresh install), my old XP seems to be much more "quiet"

Hi Summer4Ever, Welcome to the forums.. more than likely, windows is indexing your drive.. this is normal, especially on a fresh install and can take some time, depending on how large the drive is. It will settle down ...

if you want to calm your indexing down, either because you don't need it, or because you only want certain folders indexed, start typing indexing into your start-menu searchbox >> chose indexing options from the search results, then use the modify button to restrict the indexed locations. you may then want to rebuild your index, by using the advanced button.

personally, i only keep my start-menu indexed, so i can quickly launch programs - you may have different personal needs, however.

indexing is related to the (rather poor) search function.

windows searches the index, rather than the drive.

superfetch is probably what makes your progs load faster.
