Seagate hdd not showing

This HDD is the third in my machine it is a seagate barracuda. it shows up some times. When I reboot the the machine its there but after it comes out of hybrid sleep it does not show up. I can see it in the bios.

Use the Snipping Tool and post your Disk Management. That will give us some help.

What type of drives do you have in your system (sata or ide)? Is SATA configured as AHCI or IDE?

So obviously it doesn't show up in disk management.

Which drive is IDE and which is SATA?
Is your F drive another operating system, if so, which?
Is the IDE drive actually connected via an IDE cable and the other by a SATA cable?
Is SATA configured as IDE or AHCI?

If it only shows up sometimes, there are two likely causes. Either your PSU can't handle the load at boot, or the drive is failing. Either way, I'd back up the data off the drive and then run some of Seagate's tests on it.

600 watt power supply
I can run tests on the HDD

The wattage of the PSU means very little. Even if it is a quality PSU, it could be failing (instead of the drive). Or, it could be a cheap PSU that provides inconsistent power.

C is SATA
F is SATA and used for storage
SATA is connected by a SATA cable and IDE by an IDE cable
SATA is configured as IDE

an other issue

my network storage doesn't connect on boot have to unplug power to it an reconnect power for it to connect. the network drive is a WD My Book World Edition 1tb

It could also very possibly be an inconsistency in the power management between the OS and the drive (I'm leaning toward this), or an improper/missing driver that controls the power management (have the latest chipset/storage drivers?), or a faulty cable/connector, or.. the list can go on depending what info we get back after testing all these things. I wouldn't narrow it down to just those two things. Running drive tests is a good idea, but I would think there would be other disk corruption issues if it was actually failing.

Others have reported this problem happening with various drives. The PSU should have plenty of power to supply 3 hard drives, no dedicated gpu (his is onboard), and some optical drives even if it is crappy. If it had problems supplying power, I would think other drives would have the same issues of not being supplied power in order to be recognized by the system.

Just thinking out loud, though.

qreaigh - Is the "reconnect at logon" enabled for your network drive? That sounds like a completely separate issue.

But Disk 1 & Disk 2 both have an active 100MB system reserved partition.

Correction 2nd 100MB isn't system

That's why I asked if the F: drive was another OS (Vista or 7) since that's created when those are installed. Perhaps the drive was installed when he loaded 7 onto his C: drive and it loaded another reserved partition onto the F: drive, unless the partition on there is a manufacturer reserved partition for recovery (equally likely).

The OP needs to clarify.
He shows 2 disks (not 3) and 3 partitions assigned letters. Just guessing but disk 2 looks like it was a main boot/OS disk in a previous life and maybe needs a bit of cleaning up.

I concur - it could have been a boot drive or it could be a secondary drive with a manufacturer recovery partition from somewhere.

The lack of the third is the example of his problem, though. It doesn't show in disk management after wake from sleep.

To determine if your drive is failing or not, you may want to enable SMART (Self Monitoring And Reporting Technology) in your System BIOS, and then download and install the SeaTools software from Seagate.

It helped me to identify a failing hard disk, and was able to verify that the drive was still under warranty...

My main hard drive failed but it was still under the 30 days. It was an OCZ 60gb ss hard drive. I replaced it and am now in the process of reloading software. all previous problems are voided.

Glad to hear your problem is solved. But, just one quick question: Which iof the solutions posted is it that solved your problem? I myself can thank the SeaTools software and S.M.A.R.T monitoring for giving me an early warning of pending drive failure that prevented me losing close to 1.5TB worth of data...

I use SeaTools and it fails to recognise my Seagate Barracuda sata HDD except with the DOS boot tool. A problem experienced by some others. The Tools don't display SMART info for USB HDDs.
I recommend CrystalDiskInfo which displays SMART data for sata & USB HDDs.

SeaTools still has a role for disk scans.
