Windows 7: Windows won't boot after uninstalling ATI driver

After uninstalling the ATI 10.11 drivers as they were causing crashes in Black Ops, Windows will no longer boot after restarting, it just goes straight to the recovery screen. I've tried starting in Safe Mode but it gets to the ATIpcie.sys and goes to the recovery screen again

Anyway to sort this or am I looking at another fresh installation?

Do you have a 2nd vid card or onboard video you can use while you uninstall these drivers?

No I sold my other card a few weeks ago and my mobo doesn't have onboard sadly

If you can boot from your cd drive, with your Windows 7 cd in it, you can run Setup & select (after a few screens) Upgrade.
I had to do this and found that the upgrade process will repair "whatever", it will bring all your installed software along. All I was left to do was get all the OS updates. Took mine about 2 hours. I did not have to re-install any applications. I was very pleased with the process.

Boot the Windows 7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, accept any offered Repair. If it fails to start, boot back in, click through to Startup Repair to run up to 3 separate times with reboots to repair/rewrite the MBR if necessary.

If this fails, boot back in to try System Restore specifically although it should run as one of many fixes tried by Startup Repair.

Safe Mode should not load your ATI driver but should default to the Standard VGA driver used during install. If this continues, open a Command Line from DVD or Repair CD, type:

cd /d c:\windows\system32\drivers\ (if c: is the Windows 7 drive)
del atipcie.sys
shutdown -r -t 0

Managed to get it sorted through system restore now, thanks for the help guys. Thought I had deleted all my restore points on the weekend but remembered it created another when a Windows Update installed this afternoon

A good reason NOT to delete Restore Points.

In fact, SysRestore is so valuable in situations like this that if you have spare HD space I would increase the space apportioned to Restore Points to 20% or more at Computer>Properties>System Protection>Configure.

Is it possible to have the restore points saved onto another drive? I dont want to use up too much space on my SSD's so would rather have it save to my storage drive instead if possible.
