    screen freezes up

Every so often (a few times a day) my screen locks up (the small circle just goes round and round) for about a minute or so. If I try to type or do control-alt-delete, the screen turns gray. Eventually it goes back to normal. What is happening? McAfee says it's not a virus and to contact Microsoft.

I read in PC world so something available from Microsoft I could download and it was supposed to take care of the freezing up of the screen. I've downloaded it (twice) and it hasn't stopped it.

Does anyone else experience this and is there something else I can try. It's very annoying when I'm bidding on something or just surfing it's a big pain.

    Help, please . . . and thanks!!!

    Welcome
Good chance that this procedue will give you the answer
My guess is that the answer will be Mcaffee, but lets wait on that
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If clean boot does not give the answer, we will take a memory test next.

It sounds like some program is trying to connect. You might try "What'sRunning"

Jacee, can't you get the same information from Task Manager. Process tab and Resource Monitor (button)?

Hmm, just tried WhatsRunning v2.2 and I don't get any info displayed for Processes. This is on WIn 7 Pro X64.

Ah, I see v3.0 supports Vista and Win 7, I only have 2.2. Upgrading now.
