What is GoogleUpdate in the task manager?

Delete Google Chrome to get rid of updater.
Kind of stuck with it.

The .exe apps I would delete Chrome and then download and reinstall. It may get rid of the chrome.exe problem.
Also this will get the newest version that came out recently.
Go thru Device Manager> Programs and Features and delete.

The GoogleUpdate in the task manager is the program which automatically checks updates for the Google Toolboard and I think it's responsible also for the other google programs updates. So don't worry about it, it's necessary and inoffensive. And also it should not consume more than a bit of your computer resources.
About the many instances of "Chrome.exe", keep in mind that is totally normal. You can noticed the same performance when you are running Internet Explorer.

Google updater is Chrome and is always going to be there. You can right click in task manager processes and click "end process" now but that only ends it until the next time you start Chrome.

The extra Chrome.exe you can right click each one and left click End Process. That will probably only be a temporary solution.


Try this below. Will get rid of all tracking cookies and other nastys etc.

Google Chrome.

Click Wrench Tool icon upper right corner. Drop curtain comes down click Options.
Click "Clear Browsing Data" button in new window. That should remove all but...to be sure..

This you can do to double check.
...Then click "Content Settings" in same window as above. New window highlight Cookies. Click "Show Cookies and other Site Data".
New window should be empty. If not Click "Remove All"
Done!

As you will see Content Settings window gives you access to all add ons.


I open Chrome I have only two Chrome.exe in Task Manager.
One tab and one Chrome updater.

Fourteen is a bit many.

It does seem weird to people that are used to firefox or safari, but it works out better for you in the end. You'll find that flash and java also get there own chrome process. People that have used firefox will tell you that when any part of firefox or flash stops responding, then entire program crashes. In Chrome, when a plug-in, add-on or page chrashes, just that one thing chrashes and the rest keeps going just fine. When a page crashes, all you have to do is refresh that page or when something like flash crashes, all the pages stay open, but anything requiring flash stops working until you refresh that page. In firefox (older versions at least, I believe in 4.0 they are switching to chromes way of doing things) if flash crashes, the entire program crashes. When one crashes, the entire program goes with it because it is all kept in one process.

This is not a solution. Why? Because there's no problem. Try yourself to use Chrome, you will see this chrome.exe many instances, if you end one of these processes the program may not work properly, Google Chrome may crash. Do you use Internet Explorer? Check the process manager and tell me how many instances of iexplore.exe can you see.

I have Chrome open right now 2 Chrome.exe. IE.exe three open. Not fourteen.

Got it. I didn't realize each process was independent such as flash and java.
