Intel SSD/2.5" X25-M 80G GEN2
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate (legal version)

I just installed Windows 7 and was really suprised at space used for installation - only 8GB. I checked Win folder on C and it is 10,5GB. WTF is going on? I haven't activated my Windows yet, because i'm worried about this. Is something wrong with my Windows? This is "clean" install, only genuine Windows and nothing else.

Go into Disk Management and see if your free space matches that of Computer.

Reports on Windows 7 vary from 8-9 on the low end to 15-22 on the high. Can't explain why or the differences. I wouldn't worry to much and complete the install.

Disk Management matches the size reported by My computer (free space)

My win folder + page file + other folders is more than 50% bigger than the size shown by My computer.

I reinstalled - same problem - it seems that Windows is always showing 4GB more in win folder
How is it possible that I'm the first one to notice that???
I searched for 5 hours on google before posting here...

Well this is the final answer (at the end I figured it out myself)
I'm sure if you check your folders you'll find the same thing

The Windows folder contains the WINSXS folder....which is not actually as big as it looks as you are looking at hard links to files that are stored in other folders. That would give the false impression that the C:\windows folder is taking more space than you think.

Suggest you run WinDirStat - that will tell you what's really on the disk (apart from the shadowstorage). But at first glance you are right. The nums do not match.
