Hi nikkula, welcome to the forums.
You can burn the RC ISO file to DVD and boot from it. It will allow upgrading from 7000 so all your settings and program information will be saved.

Highly not recommended though, a fresh install would cause less problems in the long run. :)
I have done several upgrades from 7000 thorugh currently 7201 on a fairly hefty workstation (Tyan MB, dual Xeon E5440, 8GB, 2 RAID controllers, dual monitors, Outpost Security Suite Beta, Adobe CS4, MS Office, Nero 9, UltraISO, Paragon Drive Backup, True Launch Bar, etc.) with no problems. I also did a clean install from 7077 to RC, but didn't feel any real difference from upgrading.
As always, YMMV but from what I have seen the upgrade path is very viable and worth a try, especially if you have a lot of software to install.
BTW, I don't burn a DVD - I just mount the ISO image on a virtual drive and upgrade / clean install from there - much faster!
I bought a new computer with vista home install and I upgraded with windows 7 (my intention was never tu use vista) I create a partition
and try to install my XP professional. I booted from my CD like allways start copyng the file and then will not let me install the XP (blu windows with stupid remarks error 0000etc) is somebody help me please!!!!
The way I would upgrade if I was you,
1. burn the iso as slow as possible. 2x to 4x recommended (I use the DVD for backup).I do not install from DVD.
2. make a partition on your 500 GB of at least 15GB.
3. uncompress the ISO (i use ultraiso) to the new partition (D:\). I do this cause its faster to install.
4. run cleanup, run defrag, remove your AV, and disable/remove the FW.
5. open in D:\ setup
6. use the upgrade option. when ask.
set back and relax and enjoy 7100 when it is finished.
7. install Antiviris and Firewall.
Now many folks do not like upgrades. I do.
Enjoy
