Task Scheduler Has 40 Tasks Scheduled

I took a look and seen 40 scheduled tasks. Just wondering if any are over kill. I see defrag in there as well.

Its as installed Win7 Pro x64.

A few perhaps. But you'll find a few are once off's or never runs.

You can cull those you know that you don't need, or plan to do manually (ie Disk Defrag), but for the most part you'd be hard pressed to notice them going about their business.

Thanks, I'll consider it not broken and not fix it. :)

Do you mean Processes when you say Tasks. 40 is not a high number. I usually have over 60 doing nearly nothing on the system. Under the CPU tab you will observe that there are only very few that are really running - most are "dormant".
Killing processes is a risky business because you cannot tell by the name what they imply. Some are really jerky because they do a lot of things besides the obvious. And the same applies to the tasks in Task Manager.

No he means Scheduled Tasks. Click on Start and type scheduled tasks. Click on Scheduled Tasks when it appears. Expand Microsoft then Windows. You'll see lots of tasks scheduled to run at various times for various reasons.

I know. But tasks and processes are related. Although one task can trigger several processes.

    Agreed.

When you schedule something it's called a Task. The task can launch any form of executable, com, exe, bat, cmd, vbs, jar, etc. They in turn can become one or more Processes.
