Windows 7: Explorer sorting - folders always on top?

Explorer sorting - folders always on top?

Hi all...

When sorting in explorer, the default by "Name" shows folders first, followed by files. But if I reverse the sort order (still by "Name"), it displays files first then folders below.

Is it possible to have folders always displayed first, regardless of how other sort options are chosen? Could be mistaken but back in XP didn't explorer always showed folders first?

Just clicking on the Name tab in Explorer I find identical behavior in my Windows 7 here and in my XP laptop: if you change the sorting order, so does the location of folders. So, unless you mean that some setting exits to change that, then no, in XP explorer did not always show folders first.

Hey, you're right. I just realised the folders I checked on my XP machines are older than the files, and playing around with the columns shows the same results as on Windows 7. Ascending order tends to show folders first though, so I can live with that. Thanks.
