    LOVE Windows 7

I have to say after upgrading from Vista...it's like night and day!

Whereas, Vista was so slow and full of application lockups...and slow downs...waiting...waiting...waiting for something top happen I'm not sure how many times I stopped myself from picking up my CPU and smashing it.

Since the upgrade to 7 last month, I'm telling you, this thing is fast! No lockups, and I have had this system since I bought it in 2007.
It's back to performing like new.

    JE - Happy for 7.

I have to say that XP was a great leap over the previous OS's and when I bought my girlfriend a new laptop loaded with Vista we both were less than enamored with it but it was likely faced with change that we fought. She would ask me things about why this and why that and I was frustrated not understanding and knowing the answers. Now as a W7 lover I feel Vista has become much easier to understand. I can't wait to see what is waiting in the Windows wing and for the life of me I don't see what some see in Mac's. It's a style over substance issue in my mind, but I do like how they aren't attacked as much in cyberspace as PC's one plus in the Mac column.

I never understood the "problems" people faced with Vista. It wouldn't just decide to crash on its own without the user creating problems. Anyway, 7 is a solid release and I haven't had any issues with it. Yet.

I agree also on the nice features and speed of Windows 7.
I have installed every Microsoft OS since DOS 1.0 and all the flavors of windows.

Each time there are some that have problems but once they learn the new features and procedures
    they come to like them.

It reminds me of the Doctors office I support where they had their appointment books on large ledger
sheets that took up half a desk. When we converted them to an electronic appointment scheduling part of
their office management system. We had to hide the ledgers in the ceiling tiles so that they were forced
to use the computer to schedule patients. Now they would not know how to search a ledger sheet.

Well, there was an article a while back ago on PC Mag or another group explaining part of the problem with how Vista handled things.

Part of the problem was dealing with the anti-trust suit that MS got with regards to XP, mostly due to Internet Explorer. The design of Vista was to do away with the Anti-Trust suit, but introduced a new problem which was dealing with Legacy code. Vista's biggest issue was mostly memory leaking, due to improperly handled dynamic linked library loading. What would happen is that a program that uses one set of DLLs would load into memory, if another program uses another version of said DLLs, it would load up that version as well.

The problem is, that when the program is done... The DLLs are not unloaded. They stay in memory in case they are needed, but most of the time, they are not. It is basically, you check out library books and leave them in your room. Eventually, you run out of room in the room because you have all those books just being in your room but never getting them out.

Supposedly, Microsoft has learned from that mistake and improved it with Windows 7.

Yes 7 is a champ. MS has learned and now 7 just does it! If many people remember when Vista first rolled out the gate with no sp's, it was really, REALLY bad. That's when I got this PC.

Le'ts not forget that junk that came out called ME. I remember I upgraded one of my systems from 98 to ME...oh no, I HAD TO GO BACK TO 98 FAST!

As I recall (it has been a while), Win 98 was a fairly big improvement over 95. After I had 98 a year or so, I was ready for a new computer. All the computers had ME pre-installed. It had been around long enough for the stories to circulate concerning the problems. I decided not to get a new PC until XP came out.

Sorry, but Vista was no where even close to being as bad as ME.

It all depends on when and what hardware (ie: vendor) you got Vista pre-loaded from.

An independently built system with all the right Hardware had extremely few issues.
The reason is,,, the hardware was chosen properly, there was no garbageware and/or bloated trial ware installed that a bunch of the OEM's do. Plus, (depending on the person) they wouldn't sell you a system with only 512M of ram.

No, Vista's issues were more with OEM's and 3rd Party Vendors not being ready, or catering properly to Vista, even though they had a whole TON of warning about it's being on it's way. They had plenty of access to Beta's for a Very long time. They ignored it and dropped the ball.

Blame the vendors and the OEM's for Vista's issues, not Vista itself.

Also, if some of you recall,,, XP's initial release, till SP1 was not so warm and fuzzy either.
And even then, till SP2,, and most still swore by 2000

Same here. I never had problems with Vista and am still using it on 2 systems without problems. And it is actually faster than Win7 - at least my systems.

Correct on all counts, and let's not forget the failure of hardware vendors to provide decent drivers...
