cant seem to alter the read only attributes

I think the cause was copying a user folder from a previous Win7 install after a crash.

I had to re take ownership.. to be able to access them, which i did.

But for love or many i cant see to alter the read only attributes.

I have full permissions, ownership, admin account.. but still fail.

The folder is not in the c: drive or user accounts files any more but on my data drive. (different physical drive)

When using the command prompt I get errors about hidden files.. but none should be hidden! Maybe this is normal for these thumbnails & other system files.

( i use opus directory, not that that should make any difference)

All methods of changing the attributes appear to work.. but when i go back to check it still indicates certain files are read only.

Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

Plus you cannot easily change the attributes on Thumbs.db files while the OS is running. Windows Protects these files.

Ok, i was not expecting files located outside the system drive to be protected to this degree.

Now i've done a little digging about i realise I was having a blond moment. I could have sworn this was the only folder on my data drive that was showing read-only files, but no, most do.

Thanks for the answer WindowsStar, but logicearth i must admit i don't understand your answer/logic, i must be missing something.

I didn't think this merited its own post, but i forgot the rules here, thanks for moving.

It was a dumb one

It means the checkbox in the folder properties is always going to be filled in with an intermediate value (neither on of off). Because folders do not get the "read-only" attribute. Read-only, applies only to files.
