Freeze after idle and BSOD after standby

    Hi everyone

I have two systems both behaving strangely. Each has its own original Win7 x64 disc, so I can rule out a defective disc. They both BSOD after standby, and freeze for 5-10 secs after idle. This seems to be a fairly common problem, with loads of threads, but I'm yet to find a solution that works for me. I'm testing out fixes primarily one just one of them, with no success yet. I've reinstalled Windows on it a few times, updated BIOS, tested RAM and HDDs, updated HDD firmware, all with no effect. Tried downloading an updated Nov2010 Win7 disc just in case both the originals are defective, and that didn't have any effect.

    The systems are:

    i7 950, X58, 12GB Corsair, RevoDrive, Velociraptor, 3X Seagate 2TB, Corsair PSU
    Q9450, P45, 8GB Corsair, Seagate 1TB, Samsug 1.5TB, Antec PSU

They're totally different, which makes me think this isn't the hardware of either. One is a P45 and the other is an X58. Both would use an intel SATA controller I think, they both have the LG 10X blu-ray burner, but that might be about as far as the similarities go. The Q9450 system is sitting there with only Windows on it, hasn't run a single application, no third party drivers installed, and it shows the symptoms. The funny thing is, its 2 years old and it started doing this about 2 weeks ago. The i7 system does the same thing. Crazy. I'm totally convined that this is a Windows issue.

    Any ideas?

Hello and welcome. Can you send us the minidumps from the BSODs from C:\Windows\Minidump ? You can zip 'em up and attach them to your next post. It should help the other gurus in checking your problem. Also... it would be nice to have the dumps from both machine.

Here's something that might be interesting. There was an AHCI issue where the system would BSOD after sleep, with AHCI enabled, and there was a msahci hotfix. It seems like a common problem. Although I tried it and it didn't work. The i7 system still crashes after sleep. Although, the Q9450 system that has a fresh install of Windows and nothing else, hasn't BSOD'd at all today. I changed it back to IDE this morning before reinstalling Windows. It's freezing after idle, but so far no crashes, but time will tell. I'll keep sleeping and waking it all day tomorrow to see what it does and will post the results. I was going to rule out the AHCI issue as a possible culpret, but now that the Q9450 system hasn't crashed in a while I might reconsider it as a fix for that one. I ditched AHCI on the i7 system too, but haven't reinstalled Windows on it. It's still crashing after sleep.
