    Usb 3.0 vs esata


    Quick question!

    Whats faster! USB 3.0 or ESATA!?

    Ive go-ogled and cant find a definitive answer..

    It seems that they are on par with each other based on transfer speed alone, which is at 3 Gbps according to information I found on PCworld.

    Sata II @ 3Gbps and Sata III @ 6Gbps vs USB 3 @ 5Gbps.

    These are all theoretical numbers. No spinning disk needs those speeds (they operate below 1Mb/sec). It is only good if you have an external SSD - but who can afford that.

    Even then, it is theoretical. They take the highest sustained benchmark numbers.
    It could have lasted seconds or whatever, no one really knows.

    Sustainable transfer rates will always be slower than that.

    It's like the Minimum vs. Recommended Requirements of a game.

    Min = What it takes to get the game to show a picture and make some movement. Not indicating how much movement.

    Recommended = Could be playable for some, but that's about it, and usually at lowest to maybe medium settings. And even that depends on the system. It's playable, but not optimal.

    Just an analogy.
