Login locked until i switch user

I have only one user account in the login screen. Recently, when I try to log in after my laptop has gone to power saver mode my password is rejected (initial login @ startup is not a problem). I try multiple times being very careful and it always gets rejected, every time, for 3 days now. It says "locked" under my account icon, above the password entry field. I hit the "switch user" button and the screen refreshes showing my icon and says "logged on" above the password entry field. I can then successfully enter my password (excatly the same as I did before) and it is accepted. CAP LOCK is off! Nothing changes accept the word "locked" changes to "logged on".

What is happening and how can I get rid of this annoying feature/bug. I have not installed new software. I already changed my account password to see if that would help. I also deleted the ASP.net account. Neither one did anything. After reading I probably should have keep the ASP.net account...

Help with this new login problem on resuming from sleep mode would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Any idea what the problem is?

thanks richc46

I have not done a system restore yet. I would like to know what the problem is and a way to fix it in the future, or even if anyone else has ever run into this problem before.

With a system restore you don't lose and updated documents and files except system files that have been changes since the restore point correct?

With System restore you will only change the OS. Pics, documents etc will not be touched. I have used system restore and so have others and this has always been the case. That being said you may be the first, but should not be.
The problem is that the User Account is corrupt, you can try this
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If that does not work, you can try this, but Im not hopeful

I have found with my machine, as well as with other, if the answer is not evident, a quick system restore is usually the best.

You can try another user acccount to see if it is just corruption.

or try this
Log On Automatically at Startup

System Restore Worked. Network/Sync help?

Thanks for the suggestion/help. The problem logging back in after the system is sleeping is gone. I'll definitely be back to this site!

Do you have any suggestions on a software to sync files from different computers (OS XP pro, Windows 7 home premium, Windows 7 ultimate)? I tried the win freeware but could not get it to work between OS. I suspect that it may be the way the networks are set up as the Windows 7 machines don't always recognize the XP machines as being in the local network and vise versa....

Maybe I should re-post in a new thread. Not sure about the etiquette...

Every one has knowledge in their own field of expertise. Best if you post in a new theread.
But its Christmas and you see like a nice guy. So here are my maintenace tips to give you a trouble free New Year

To maintain your computer

10 Tips on How to Properly Maintain Your Computer

Steps that I did not notice on the guide include:

Running a scan disc before doing a defrag

Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.

Making System Restore points, at least once a week

Makaing a system Image once a month (varies by user)

Not relying on your A/V common sense, should prevail. You know of many sites can cause a problem.

Do not use any reg cleaning or optimizing software.

Download and use Ccleaner. about once every two months
Piriform - Download CCleaner, Defraggler, Recuva, Speccy - Millions of users worldwide!

If you follow these instructions, you will be trouble free for a long time to come.

Be sure to back up your hard drive about once a month (varies by user) and to keeep system restore points up to date.
