Repair Install:
"You cannot do a repair install at boot or in Safe Mode"

Nope... I did it at boot - because I could not even get Safe mode start at boot: only: Normal (hanged ) and Repair... (said: recomended) - but it failed to resolve anything.

So I boot from original DVD - "repair someting" (don't remember) - it looked for files that needed repair: it listed them, did some settings - and everything looked fine; just user profiles were lost (and video drivers).

Although this thread is almost 1 1/2 years old, it sounds like your "System Repair" was a Repair Install. If it was, some of the things that will be reset to default or affected include Sounds, Services, Visual Effects, Drivers, Custom Themes, Gadgets, and Windows Updates.

Repair Install
I found it now - and posted just for info if anyone has similar problems
